52 Letters of Fun Mail
A simple way to spread kindness all year long
What if you wrote one letter a week for an entire year?
Just one.
Fifty-two small touches of encouragement.
Fifty-two moments of connection.
Fifty-two reminders to someone that they are seen, valued, and not alone.
I call it 52 Letters of Fun Mail — and I promise you, it will bless you just as much as it blesses the person opening the envelope.
Because let’s be honest…
Who doesn’t love getting “fun mail” in their mailbox?
⸻
Why Letters Still Matter
We live in a world of quick texts and faster emails. But a handwritten note? That’s different.
A handwritten note says:
“I slowed down for you.”
“I thought about you.”
“You matter enough for ink and paper.”
There is something about seeing your name written in someone’s handwriting that feels deeply personal. Almost sacred.
And the beautiful part? It doesn’t have to be long.
Three or four heartfelt sentences can carry more weight than pages of typed words.
⸻
How to Get Started
If you’re going to write 52 letters this year, make it joyful.
Start by gathering a few simple supplies:
• Order a pretty box of stationery that makes you smile.
• Or next time you’re at the dollar store, keep your eyes open for a sweet box of cards. (You’d be surprised what treasures you can find!)
• Choose a pack of fresh, pretty pens. Who doesn’t love opening a new pack of pens? It feels like the first day of school in the best way.
• And don’t forget stamps! I love ordering from USPS.com so you can choose beautiful designs instead of hoping your local post office has something special in stock. They cost the same so you might as well choose some good ones!!
Set everything in a little basket or box so it’s ready to go. When writing feels easy and accessible, you’re more likely to follow through.
⸻
Add a Little Something Extra
One of my favorite things to do is tuck a tiny surprise inside the envelope.
A tea bag.
A pretty paper napkin.
A recipe card.
A bookmark.
A few stickers for our grandchildren.
It doesn’t have to cost much. It’s simply a way of saying, “I was thinking of you.”
Those small touches make opening the envelope feel like a gift.
⸻
Who Should You Write?
If you’re wondering where to begin, start close to home.
• Your husband — mail it to his office.
• Your child — even if they live under your roof.
• A teacher.
• A neighbor.
• A mentor.
• The friend who just crossed your mind.
Sometimes when someone keeps coming to mind, that little nudge is reason enough.
Write the note.
⸻
Make It a Weekly Rhythm
Choose one day a week.
Maybe Monday mornings with your coffee.
Or Friday afternoons before the weekend begins.
Or Sunday evenings as a quiet reset for the week ahead.
You could even keep a running list of 52 names at the start of the year — one for each week. Or simply let the Lord bring someone to mind each time.
Don’t overthink it.
Just write.
⸻
Why 52 Letters Could Change You
Here’s the part people don’t expect:
Writing letters changes the writer.
When you begin looking for someone to encourage each week, your eyes open. You pay closer attention. You notice who seems weary. Who needs affirmation. Who quietly serves behind the scenes.
Kindness becomes something you actively look for.
And as Scripture reminds us:
“He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)
You may begin the year thinking you’re blessing others — and you will be. But somewhere along the way, you will find your own heart growing softer, more grateful, more aware.
⸻
Start This Week
Don’t wait until next January. Don’t wait for the perfect set of cards. Why not just in right now?
Start this week.
Write one letter.
Drop it in the mailbox.
And imagine the smile when it’s opened.
Fifty-two letters may not change the whole world.
But they will change fifty-two moments in someone’s life.
And that is a beautiful place to begin.
